| 5 miles easy, feeling pretty good so I'm leaning toward giving it a go and running Asheville Half-Marathon on Saturday. This afternoon I decided to enter online so in case I got delayed during the 3+ hour drive race morning I'd at least not have registration to worry about. But active.com had stopped taking entries as of last night (which figures). The odd thing is that there was a note about the race being almost full, this despite the fact that neither the entry form nor the race website mention a cap on entries. And both say they will accept day of race registrations. So I e-mailed the race director to see if there's any other way I can enter today or tomorrow. | Add Comment |

| 5 miles easy, feeling pretty good. Except for the fact that I made major efforts to get into Asheville Half-Marathon today and failed. The race director's e-mails said they would probably be full at some point this afternoon and he also said they couldn't take a credit card number over the phone and no faxing entries and paying tomorrow. So I went ahead and tried faxing my entry to the YMCA then calling to ask people there if they would accept it -- no deal. This makes me really angry! Why is there no mention anywhere of a limit on registrations?! I'm not driving all the way to Asheville leaving at 3:15 a.m. tomorrow to be told I can't enter. | 14 miles, first 1.5 to warm up with a few strides, etc., then ran 15K on the track in 1:00.29 (5Ks in 20:05, 20:10, 20:14) and about 4.5 miles cool-down. Since I couldn't race the half-marathon I wanted something to really test my fitness and this was the best idea I could come up with. At first I thought I run 52.75 laps and do a complete half-marathon but it was so humid I knew I'd really suffer doing that on my own so I settled for 15K at about half-marathon pace (a bit slower, I hope!). I'm not nearly as fit as half a year ago when I ran a 1:22 half but this wasn't too bad considering everything, including the humidity. I think I'll aim for a new half-marathon in Augusta, GA, in six weeks and see if I can get something back by then, provided my hip and so one cooperate. | Add Comment |
